A galaxy is unveiled in Star Wars The Blueprints

first_imgThere’s no question that Star Wars is one of the greatest sagas in the history of film and science fiction. From the bustling streets of Coruscant to the murky swamps of Dagobah, the Star Wars galaxy is vast. While much work has been done in the expanded universe, there has never been a detailed look at how the galaxy originally came to life. Star Wars: The Blueprints reveals the inner workings of one of the most beloved galaxies. The book includes more than 200 of the detailed original architectural drawings. Over 500 photographs and illustrations spanning the six films sit alongside the blueprints.  The blueprints range from ecosystems and the Cantina to droids and battles. While the actors undoubtedly brought the movies to life, the real magic happened when pencil met paper. The collective work of everyone in the art departments gave Lucas’ vision a physical form.  The images were selected by J. W. Rinzler who had previously authored The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.Rinzler feels that the blueprints have something that concept art does not. Blueprints connote a sense of reality as they give physical dimensions to aspects of the galaxy that were otherwise left to imagination. There’s something different about looking at R2D2’s specific measurements than an artistic rendering.A passage with each blueprint explains its path from conception to final product. Rinzler also provides interviews with Norman Reynolds (production designer and art director for the classic trilogy), Gavin Bocquet (production designer for the prequel trilogy), and others from across the production departments. The level of work that has gone into this books is incredible, and while it is not cheap, it offers unparalleled access to a galaxy far, far away. The book will be available in only 5,000 English language editions. Ordering can be done through the books website for $500 a copy or $1000 for a signed edition. Amazon currently has the preorder price set at $450.This book certainly isn’t cheap, but it’s an amazing collection of work that hasn’t been seen before. So, you going to buy it?See more at The Blueprints Book, via Arch Dailystar wars blueprints coverstar wars blueprints covermillennium falcon blueprintssw_blueprintssw_blueprints_01sw_blueprints_02sw_blueprints_03ti_fighterlast_img read more
