The event was launched with a K50,000 sponsorship from foundation sponsor Oil Search Limited (K25,000) and Lae-based Mapai Transport Limited (K25,000).This is the sixth year that the event will be hosted to support the work of the PNG Cancer Relief Society in Lae.The corporate challenge will be held in Lae on August 19th.Oil Search PNG communications manager, Ruth Waram, said the sponsorship covers the hosting of the event, whilst 100 percent of the funds raised from the event will go directly to the PNG Cancer Relief Society to assist their work. Waram said Oil Search was a proud sponsor of the event as the funds raised would go a long way in the fight against cancer in PNG.“Oil Search as a proud PNG company, is happy to participate and assist with activities that make a difference to the lives of Papua New Guineans,” said Waram.Mapai Transport managing director, Jacob Luke, said the event’s theme is ‘Keep fit – live healthy’.He invited all corporate houses and other generous donors to support the cause.“The Daffodil Corporate Golf Challenge has been a success through the generous support of the private sector, who spend their time and money to play golf and raise much needed funds to support the plight of the cancer patients.“The task of looking after cancer patients is a government responsibility and not a private or corporate responsibility.“However, cancer patients are a neglected group of people who are already in an extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged position.“We undertake this fundraising activity as good responsible corporate citizens and also to show our love and care for these patients. Cancer patients are part of our community,’’ said Luke.
