Work will be performed in Bath, Maine, and is expected to be completed by June 2014.The mission of the DDG 1000 class destroyer is to provide credible independent forward presence and deterrence. The ships will provide advanced land attack capability in support of the ground campaign and contribute naval, joint or combined battle-space dominance in littoral operations.  In August, the U.S. Navy awarded General Dynamics – Bath Iron Works (BIW) a contract for the design and construction of a steel superstructure (deckhouse and hangar) and construction of aft peripheral vertical launching system (PVLS) modules for integration into the future USS Lyndon B.
