Local runners begin outdoor track season in Hampden

first_imgELLSWORTH — George Stevens Academy, Ellsworth, Bucksport and Deer Isle-Stonington competed in the season’s first outdoor track meet Monday in Hampden.On the boys’ side, GSA finished third and with two individual wins from Erik Taylor-Lash. Taylor-Lash won the pole vault and 1,600-meter race walk and was also part of a team that won the 4-by-400 relay. His brother, Alex, won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.Ellsworth’s Nate Mason and Bucksport’s Danny Bunker both won jump events. Mason won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 8 inches. Bunker won the long and triple jumps with distances of 19 feet and 38 feet, 11 inches, respectively. For Deer Isle-Stonington, junior Brendan Penfold won the 1,600-meter run.The GSA girls’ team got wins in the 4-by-400 and 4-by-800 relays. Elsewhere for GSA, Morgan Dauk won the javelin throw, Mary Brenna Catus won the 400-meter dash and Eliza Broughton won the 300-meter hurdles.This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textGSA finished third in both the boys’ and girls’ meets. For the boys, Ellsworth finished fifth, Bucksport took sixth and DI-S took seventh. On the girls’ side, Bucksport and Ellsworth took fourth and sixth, respectively.last_img
