Lions Club hosts charity auction

first_imgWHITTIER – Would you like to have a Super Bowl football signed by Jerome Bettis, Ben Rothlisberger and others, a week at a five-bedroom house at Big Bear Lake or a dinner party for 50 at Steve’s BBQ? These and many other items will be auctioned off at the 10th Annual Wine Tasting and Evening Buffet fundraiser presented by the Whittier Host Lions Club Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Whittier Community Center, 7630 Washington Ave. The $40 per person event will allow guests to sample foods from 20 participating restaurants, wines from eight wineries, beer from Miller’s Brewing and other beverages from Hansen’s Beverage Co. Proceeds from last year’s event exceeded $30,000 which went to support the Lions’ children’s sight conservation efforts and other local community service programs. This month the club pledged $50,000 to Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital to furnish and equip a playroom to be known as the Lions Den in the hospital’s new pediatric unit.
