first_imgCaptain Michael Kelly Wins Dunfanaghy MedalWell the cold weather has gone but the wind returned with a vengeance last weekend in Dunfanaghy. It was the first time this year we could play golf in summer gear.Wednesday was a fantastic day and so it was for Michael Ward who made a very welcome return to the winners circle with a stunning 43 points. This however was just good enough to beat Dan Sweeney on BOT to the top slot. Another stranger to the winners circle was Jim Carey. Jim managed to win third on BOT while Robert McElhinney picked up the gross. Friday again saw the 14 hole competition with a stunning score from John McKendry of 36 points (over 14 holes). Big Paul Smith came second with 29 points. The Saturday 4BBB competition was played when the wind was starting to get up and with the pin positions together with the speed of the greens the scoring was not great. It was so difficult to get the ball into the hole with the blustery conditions but it was dry and warm so it did not really matter too much. The pairing of Kevin James and Eugene Gallagher got another top-up to their card with a super score of 42 points. Under the conditions this was a good score while the rest of the field was beaten by Joe Terry and Gerard Harkin with 36 points BOT.On Sunday the wind was very blustery and some of the golfers gave up at the 14th but not the 4 ball of Captain Michael Kelly, Brendan Kelly, and Michael Doyle all of whom featured in the prizes. The scoring was good again for the conditions with second place going to BOT. But it was our Captain Michael Kelly who took the top honours and collected his first Monthly Medal from Dunfanaghy. Second place was decided on BOT with Hugh Brogan coming out on top with a net 72 pushing Michael Doyle into third place. The Gross was won by Brendan Kelly. James Connors and John McNulty won the nines. Results:Wednesday 10th April: Gents Open Singles Stableford1st: Michael Ward 43 BOT2nd: Dan Sweeney 43 Gross: Robert Mc Elhinney 333rd: Jim Carey 39 BOTC.S.S. 37 ptsFriday 12th April: Ladies & Gents Open 14 Hole Stableford 1st: John McKendry 362nd: Paul Smyth 29C.S.S.
