IPL 2019 final was more emotional than World Cup 2015 semi-final: Quinton de Kock

first_imgSouth Africa wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock has rated IPL 2019 final as the most emotional moment in his playing career. De Kock was part of the Mumbai Indians squad which edged Chennai Super Kings in a tense IPL final. On the eve of South Africa’s must-win clash against New Zealand, de Kock was asked by a journalist whether 2015 sem-final at Eden Park against the Black Caps was the most emotional moment in his playing career.De Kock rated 2015 World Cup semi-final as the second most emotional moment in his career after IPL 2019 final.”The second most at the moment. Obviously the IPL final this year was up there. But then, Eden Park obviously…Auckland, it was pretty intense. I experienced it for the first time ever, that vibe that was going through the stadium. It was so noisy. (I was) just trying to concentrate, but it was tough to deal with it,” replied De KockDe Kock conceded South Africa’s chances of avoiding an embarrassingly early elimination will be wrecked if they do not cope with the stress of playing in a do-or-die situation.”Tomorrow is a quarter-final, I guess you could say it. But if we do win it, it’s another big game again… We have to win all the games, not just focus on tomorrow, De Kock told reporters in Birmingham. But in saying that, we know how good New Zealand are playing at the moment. They are a big team in World Cups. They always seem to step up, so it’ing to be a tough one anyway.advertisementNew Zealand are only the second undefeated team in this World Cup after three wins in four matches.”During the course of the tournament, obviously after losing all the time, there’s always a bit of a slump in being mentally strong. It’ a long, tough tournament and getting a win has given us high hopes,” the wicketkeeper added.De Kock told his South Africa teammates to keep their heads when they face New Zealand in a must-win Cricket World Cup match. We’re a successful ODI team anyway over the years. So we don’t need to change anything. It just becomes a mental game at the World Cup, trying to deal with the pressures, he added. Also Read | Most expensive spell in a World Cup: Rashid Khan goes for 110 runs off 9 oversAlso Read | Eoin Morgan hits 4th fastest hundred in World Cup historyAlso See:last_img
