first_imgMen’s OpenAustralia suffered it’s first defeat of the series in the Men’s Open division going down 6-3 to a very quick and fierce New Zealand outfit.The game was played at lightning speeds going end to end in the first half, until Australia scored first with Australian Flag Bearer, Jamie Stowe, crossing out wide to record the first for the match. New Zealand hit back with the next three touchdowns to lead at half time 3-1.The second half saw speeds matching the first half but this time with a short dumping of rain made it difficult to keep balance and ball in hands. Both teams made numerous handling errors.New Zealand scored first, but then Australia put two quick touchdowns to be down by 1, but could keep hold of the game. Australia took after the Mixed in scoring off the tap off, and posted two more touchdowns shortly after to lead the first half 3-1. Australia found it difficult to get out of their half at times with numerous penalties around the ruck. Australia was the only team to score in the second half. The rain came down heavy for a couple of minutes making the ball very slippery for both teams and players losing their footing. Australia came out firing, scoring touchdowns off their first three sets of six to lead 3-1. Australia continued its scoring ways, scoring the next three touchdowns to lead 6-1 at one stage. New Zealand scored just before half time to bring the score a little closer.The second half started New Zealand’s comeback as they got within one touchdown of Australia, behind 7-6 with only minutes to go.
