Weekly Update: Passing Pension Reform, Announcing Business Development and New Jobs, Continuing the Fight Against the Heroin and Opioid Epidemic

first_img The Blog,  Weekly Update Governor Wolf kicked off this week by issuing a statement of support for Senate Bill 1, the pension reform legislation, and applauding the bipartisan support and passage of the bill. Governor Wolf stated that he will sign the bill and that pension reform is an important step in protecting Pennsylvania taxpayers. On Friday, advocates joined Governor Wolf in supporting the passage and future signing of Senate Bill 1.On Tuesday, Governor Wolf announced new investments through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority that will spur business development in Allegheny, Bedford, Cameron, Clinton, and Huntingdon counties. The governor also traveled to Somerset County on Thursday to join in the announcement of hundreds of new jobs coming to the region.On Friday, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency reported that the number of fatal overdoses in Pennsylvania had increased in 2016. Governor Wolf responded to the report by ensuring that he will continue to combat the heroin and opioid epidemic and warning of the potentially devastating effects budget cuts to healthcare would have on this fight.
